You Are a Masterpiece: Created to Shine

At The Well, we believe that church isn't just a place to attend—it's a place to belong, grow, and discover who God created you to be. That truth came alive in a powerful way during a recent sermon that explored what it means to express ourselves and live out our God-given purpose.

Pastor Trey started with a light-hearted story about bowling with the men of the church (and maybe throwing a few too many strikes!), but quickly turned to a deeper question: How do you express yourself to the world? In other words, how do you share pieces of who you are with others—your personality, your passion, your heart?

For some of us, expression comes through creativity—painting, music, writing, dance. For others, it's in how we lead, parent, encourage, or serve. Whether you’re a teacher or a student, a parent or a professional, each of us has unique ways of reflecting who God made us to be.

And that’s the heartbeat of our current series: Masterpiece.

Drawing from Ephesians 2:10, we're reminded of this stunning truth:
“For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

The word “masterpiece” comes from the Greek word poiēma—where we get our word "poem." That means you are not an accident. You are not forgotten, overlooked, or ordinary. You are God's poiēma—His divine poem, written with intention, purpose, and beauty.

Think about it. Michelangelo spent over 26,000 hours painting the Sistine Chapel. Bach composed 1,200 pieces of music. Misty Copeland danced for over 100,000 hours. All masterpieces—crafted expressions of who they were and what they loved. You, too, are a masterpiece in motion, created to reflect the light of Christ.

As Pastor Trey reminded us, God didn’t just throw us together last-minute like a pantry dinner. He thought of you in the beginning (John 1:1). Before the foundations of the world, He imagined you, prepared you, and formed you with a purpose.

And the way God expresses Himself? Through Jesus, the Word (Logos) made flesh. He is the light of the world—and now, through Him, you are the light. You are God's creative expression to a world that desperately needs light, hope, and love.

So, whether your canvas is a classroom or a kitchen, a boardroom or a ballet stage, a studio or a sidewalk—express who you are. Share your light. Live out the masterpiece God created you to be.

We’d love for you to join us at The Well and be part of a community discovering the beauty of God’s design—together.

Come see what God is creating at The Well. Your masterpiece is just beginning.
